Artificial Intelligence Regulation

I voted in favor of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Regulation, which aims to protect fundamental rights, democracy, the rule of law and environmental sustainability against high-risk AI, while promoting innovation and making Europe a leader in this field. The Regulation establishes obligations for AI based on its potential risks and level of impact. The adoption of this Regulation represents a historic milestone. In the world, the EU is the first with solid rules for ethical AI. By establishing clear rules and standards for the development and deployment of AI systems, we are paving the way for a future in which technology serves society while respecting fundamental rights and democratic principles. This AI act is essential for pushing innovation in the right direction, while protecting people from discrimination, surveillance and AI-generated disinformation. Through our efforts, we have ensured that the AI Regulation will ban some of the most problematic practices in the EU, such as emotional surveillance of students and workers, or AI used in certain cases of predictive policing or categorization of citizens.
