Brussels, May 3, 2024 - Francisco Guerreiro MEP questioned the Vice-President of the Commission/High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on Israel's blockade of food supplies and medical supplies and its effects on animals in Gaza.

Subject: Israel's blockade of food and medical supplies and its effects on animals in Gaza
Israel has been continuously attacking Gaza for over 100 days, blocking the delivery of humanitarian aid, including food and medical supplies, to the besieged region. This situation is brutally affecting millions of innocent people and has caused thousands of deaths. In addition, animal rights organizations in Gaza report that since February 9, 2024, no animal feed has entered Gaza, leaving thousands of animals in a tragic situation.
On January 17, 2024, an aid truck carrying two tons of animal feed, which had been expected for days, was inspected and approved on the Israeli side. However, since only a limited number of trucks are allowed into Gaza each day and the approved aid is being blocked, the animal feed has not yet been allowed through.
In addition to the humanitarian emergency, there is also an urgent need to protect the animals and the organizations that care for them in Gaza.
1) Is the EU putting pressure on the Israeli government to also allow the passage of animal feed through the Rafah and Kerem Shalom border crossings, as Gaza is in desperate need of food and medicine for the millions of cats, dogs, donkeys, horses and birds that live there?
2. Will the EU insist on the designation of safe zones in Gaza, so that NGOs such as Sulala Animal Rescue can continue their work?

The Gigabit Infrastructure Act sets another important milestone for a more united European Union: from 2029, additional costs applied to calls to numbers registered in another Member State (intra-EU calls) will no longer take place in the internal market. In addition, the GIA facilitates the deployment of high-speed networks, taking into account national and local specificities. I voted in favor.
