Batteries and their waste
Strasbourg, June 13, 2023 - The development and production of batteries is a strategic imperative for Europe in the context of the transition to clean energies. In view of the EU's dependence on raw materials from third countries, due diligence obligations for the battery value chain in relation to social and environmental standards, including human rights, are of paramount importance. Separate collection of waste batteries is necessary to achieve high recycling rates, and a maximum of key substances should be recovered from waste batteries for use in new batteries.
