Amendment of the Regulation establishing management, conservation and control measures applicable in the ICCAT Convention area and of the Regulation establishing a multi-annual management plan for bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean

I voted in favor of this report on the management, conservation and control measures applicable in the Convention area of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) and on the multiannual management plan for bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean.
 
This report transposes into Community law the most recent conservation and management measures adopted at ICCAT (2022 and 2023). The Commission's proposal only included the provisions agreed in 2022 and the rapporteur has included the 2023 provisions in order to speed up the process of transposing international agreements into Community law. The reason for this is that the transposition process is often slow and has been the subject of much criticism. The text also includes amendments to transpose the ICCAT measures on tropical tuna and other species, as well as on reporting on billfish, the North and South Atlantic shortfin mako shark and turtle by-catches, in addition to the provisions on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, as well as those on an observer program that includes the responsibilities of ICCAT scientific observers.
