Cohesion policy 2014-2020: implementation and results in the Member States
Cohesion policy represents a third of the EU budget and is the EU's largest investment policy in the fight against climate change. Its main objective is to support EU regions through the Treaty-based goal of achieving economic, social and territorial cohesion. In recent years, due to successive crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and the refugee, energy and inflation crises caused by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, cohesion policy has shown its adaptability, but at the same time has been under threat of being reallocated through different initiatives and proposals (such as CARE, SAFE, ASAP, STEP, etc.) that would divert its funding away from the main strategic objective and make all EU regions less resilient in the coming years. Among many things, this is one of the most important issues highlighted in this report that we support, as we don't want to see any more cuts to cohesion policy in the future. Cohesion policy is the main pillar of EU solidarity and must remain so with its strong budget.
