Conclusion of the Protocol implementing the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Mauritius

Strasbourg, 14 June 2023 - I voted in favor of this report on the EU-Mauritius Fisheries Partnership Agreement. This report approves the adoption of a new protocol under the fisheries agreement between the EU and the Republic of Mauritius. Local fishermen welcome it and, following a 6-month extension of the previous protocol, there is broad consensus to approve this new 4-year protocol. The protocol provides for a total financial contribution of 2.9 million euros, including measures to support the development of the local fisheries sector. The protocol also provides for greater transparency regarding the fishing effort of fleets from other third countries.
