Data network on farm sustainability
Launched in 1965 to assess the economic and financial situation of agricultural holdings, the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) now deserves an upgrade to meet contemporary needs for sustainability data, including the collection of relevant data to measure progress towards the goals of the Farm to Fork Strategy. The upgrade of the network from an accounting to a fully-fledged sustainability data network - a new Farm Sustainability Data Network (FSDN) - is, however, primarily an opportunity to provide policymakers with a wider range of data when planning the next CAP, which I hope will be more sustainable than previous ones.
After the trialogue, the Commission now has to follow a clear annex with specific topics, to serve as a basis for the FSDN as it develops data topics on new environmental and social dimensions. Given that the participation of individual farms remains voluntary, Member States should ensure a strong incentive plan to encourage farmers' participation and provide adequate means to make the aggregate results of the NSDS public.
I voted in favor.
