European Parliament approves creation of permanent subcommittee on tax matters
Brussels, 19 June 2020 - The European Parliament approved the creation of a permanent subcommitee to handle financial transparency for taxation purposes and fight against tax evasion and tax avoidance.
The Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA) group has long called for a permanent subcommittee on tax matters to deal with tax fraud, tax evasion and tax avoidance.
After having special committees (TAXE in 2015, TAX2 in 2016 and TAX3 in 2018) and a committee of inquiry (PANA in 2017), the European Parliament will have, for the first time, a permanent body to study these issues. Therefore, Parliament will be able to fight against practices like dumping and tax fraud. The Green Group will have three full members and three substitutes.
“This is a great success in the fight for tax justice. We have to end tax evasion and tax crimes, and the creation of a permanent subcommittee in the European Parliament is a good start for a new battle for justice in Europe", comments MEP Francisco Guerreiro.
