Francisco Guerreiro rejects report on the Just Transition Fund
Brussels, 18 September 2020- MEP Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA) voted against the report on the Just Transition Fund (JTF) as it includes investment support for the gas sector.
“This inclusion contradicts one of the fund's main purposes - to ensure the transition to an economy with a neutral climate impact; it also contradicts the position of the Council of Ministers that was voted at the beginning of this year and that states that the JTF should not support such investments; and does not support the pollution reduction targets already set by the EU - let alone the most recent and ambitious ones, announced by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (reduction of at least 55% of greenhouse gases by 2030),” says the MEP.
The JTF was created with the aim of creating a more competitive economy that stops climate change. One of the most essential points is to reconvert the energy production industry based on fossil fuels, such as coal, but also the housing and transport sectors.
