Objection under Article 111(3): detailed production rules for organic sea salt and other organic salts for food and feed use
Strasbourg, July 11, 2023 - We, the Greens/EFA, view the inclusion of salt in the scope of the EU Organic Regulation 2018/848 critically, as salt is a non-organic mineral and is not an agricultural product to which the principles and rules of the EU Organic Regulation can normally be applied.
The Commission has not proposed production rules that would improve the quality of the final product and provide a definition of “organic salt” compared to “conventional salt” that would actually bring benefits to consumers or the sector. I voted against.
