PAN MEP and primatologist Jane Goodall together in webinar
Lisbon, 2 June 2020 - MEP Francisco Guerreiro (PAN) today organized an online conference on “Pandemics, wildlife and intensive animal farming” with renowned primatologist Jane Goodall and Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides.
At the event, Jane Goodall gave a passionate speech on the need to learn to coexist with animals in a respectful and peaceful way.
More than once, the primatologist called on political parties and citizens to hear nature and to put an end to the confinement, suffering and mistreatment of animals - all conditions closely associated with the global pandemic we are now experiencing.
The Pessoas-Animais-Natureza MEP, Francisco Guerreiro, had the opportunity to ask Jane Goodall’s opinion on the most recent European strategy for food production - Farm to Fork -, which in several ways fails to mention the need to clearly reduce the consumption of meat and dairy and how to achieve that goal.
The event was organized by MEPs Tilly Metz (Greens/EFA), Anja Hazekamp (GUE/GNL), Sylwia Spurek (S&D), Eleonora Evi (NI), Martin Hojsík (Renew) and Jiří Pospíšil (EPP), in coordination with the international organization 'Compassion in World Farming'.
