Plenary Session: Gender pay gap
Gender pay gap (B9-0069/2020, B9-0073/2020, B9-0083/2020, B9-0084/2020)
I voted in favour of the resolution on the gender pay gap because, among other things, this resolution, which will play a central role in the formulation of the future European Commission directive on wage transparency, calls for respect for the application of the principle of equal pay between male and female workers. This is an essential prerequisite for the personal fulfillment of men and women, with equal access to financial resources being essential for achieving gender equality.
It is also recognized that motherhood and the care provided to children, the elderly, and other dependents, represent additional work, and that this care is almost exclusively performed by women. As such, it is reflected in a greater proportion of women working on a part-time basis, with lower hourly wages, with career gaps and with fewer years of employment, increasing gender inequalities.
Finally, this text considers the need to guarantee equal participation in the labour market, in the terms and conditions of employment and in career progression, and that transparency on data relating to remuneration must be consolidated.
