Plenary Session: Intellectual property rights for the development of artificial intelligence technologies
Intellectual property rights for the development of artificial intelligence technologies (A9-0176/2020 - Stéphane Séjourné)
I voted against this report, despite its merit of emphasizing the relevance of determining a regime for the allocation of intellectual property rights in the field of the development of artificial intelligence technologies. However, it does contain some issues, such as mentioning the use of biometric technologies in public health issues (such as combating the pandemic), which for us constitutes a red line, as well as the use of an ambiguous language in matters of data protection.
This area assumes an increasingly strategic relevance, with immense ethical, legal, social and economic repercussions, with the need to improve the current legislative framework, defining in an appropriate and prudent way premises regarding intellectual property in matters such as copyright, rights pertaining to patents, and rights to databases, reconciling this vector with the maintenance of the gradual evolution of technological innovation.
However, some parameters must be taken into account and must be scrupulously respected, and this adequacy must be combined with rigor in the language used, especially in complex subjects such as this.
