Sustainable corporate governance (A9-0240/2020 - Pascal Durand)
I voted in favor of this report because it raises the issue of sustainable corporate governance, and it is increasingly crucial to proceed with the quantification, monitoring and management of company performance, as well as the respective medium-long term impacts in society and the environment.
Thus, the focus is on the need to reinforce non-financial information obligations on the part of companies (including non-European companies that operate in the EU) concerning basic elements such as environmental protection, gender equality and transparency regarding wage policies.
It should be emphasized that the obligations to communicate non-financial information should be particularly focused on companies that receive public money and on sectors frequently associated with illegal commercial activities, with particular emphasis on areas that include the perpetration of environmental crimes, illegal wildlife trade and corruption or financial crime, thus promoting the protection of marine resources, biodiversity and ecosystems, an effective transition to a circular economy and pollution prevention and control.
