Plenary Session: The European Green Deal
The European Green Deal (RC-B9-0040/2020, B9-0040/2020, B9-0041/2020, B9-0042/2020, B9-0043/2020, B9-0044/2020, B9-0045/2020, B9-0046/2020)
I voted in favour of this resolution that sets out goals and structural commitments for the European Commission's future proposal on the European Green Deal.
The approved resolution puts pressure on the European Commission to guarantee a 55% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030, despite the fact that European Greens have proposed a 65% target, the end of fossil fuel subsidies as early as 2020, the reorientation of European Investment Bank investments for a transition to 100% clean and renewable energy and the establishment of binding national targets for the renewable energy sector. It should be noted that all pro-nuclear proposals were linearly rejected by the European Parliament, a strong signal for the European Commission to invest in the 100% clean and renewable energy and industries sector.
Regarding the new Just Transition Fund, I believe that it deserves consistent funding to help reconvert regions highly dependent on fossil fuels, and that it should not consist of a mere transfer to national governments or companies.
In this resolution, we were also able to guarantee a commitment to review legislation on animal welfare and protection.
