Renewable Energies Directive
I voted in favor of this report on the proposal for a directive on the promotion of energy from renewable sources.
In order to achieve the European Green Deal, it is essential that we accelerate the adoption of renewable and sustainable energies. This vote represents a vital step for the energy transition and for the competitiveness of EU industries. The Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance has ensured that the share of renewable energies will increase from 32% to 42.5% by 2030, with the aim of reaching 45%.
The EU wants to put an end to fossil fuels in our energy mix. The energy crisis has shown that we must become totally independent of oil and gas, especially from Russia.More renewables in the electricity grid and much faster construction of wind turbines and solar plants mean lower prices for citizens and businesses. This directive aims to speed up access to renewable energies by removing bureaucracy from the procedures for granting licenses for renewable energy projects, their storage and grid connections, without excessive derogations from existing environmental rules.
