Report on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulation (EC) No 1683/95 as regards the digitization of visa procedures
We voted in favour of these reports (which were originally part of the same legislative proposal but have since been separated) which aim to digitize and update the system of visa procedures in the Schengen area. The aim of this modernization is to harmonize procedures in the various Member States and make the process easier for visa applicants. We had already voted in favor of this report in committee. We regret, however, that the Council did not take this opportunity to strengthen legal and secure ways of entering the Union by approving the EP proposal, based on amendments by the Greens, extending the scope of the European Visa Code, also allowing applicants to apply for international protection in a Member State.
