Suspicions of Qatari corruption and the wider need for transparency and accountability in the European institutions - Motions for resolutions
I voted in favor of the resolution on suspected corruption by Qatar and the wider need for transparency and accountability in European institutions. Parliament expresses its dismay and deep concern at the acts of corruption, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization allegedly committed by Members, former Members and staff of the European Parliament in exchange for influence over Parliament's decisions.
The resolution calls for the creation of a special committee to identify any shortcomings in the European Parliament's rules on transparency, integrity and the fight against corruption and to put forward proposals for reform. The text also calls for the transparency register to be made compulsory and to cover former MEPs. The resolution also proposes the introduction of a period of incompatibility for former MEPs, in order to avoid the negative effects of the “revolving door” phenomenon.
