MEP Francisco Guerreiro presents, this Friday, a documentary to explain the measure that aims to guarantee dignity.
Within “a few months” a first experience of implementing the unconditional basic income (RBI) will be carried out in Alcácer do Sal, a benefit that could be attributed to each citizen, regardless of his financial, family or professional situation, to allow a dignified life .
In two years, “200 people”
; will benefit from this type of income, thanks to the support of the local community and “European and municipal” funds, told JN Francisco Guerreiro, MEP (Greens / European Free Alliance) presenting this Friday, at the Gaia Municipal Auditorium, three new episodes of “RBI: a path to Freedom”, a documentary that is being developed to explain what RBI is.
The MEP believes, however, that a more far-reaching pilot project, which also includes funds from the State Budget, should be carried out to ensure greater reliability of the results. The sample should include “5000 people” from various regions of the country. The value to be attributed is the national “minimum wage”.
Francisco Guerreiro believes that the issue will set the political, economic and social agenda at European level in the coming years and affirms that the debate on the distribution of wealth is urgent, at a time when “the living conditions of many have deteriorated. due to the pandemic and the growing automation of society will lead to a reduction in available employment ”.
The new episodes of the documentary address the theme of free time, culture and the community, issues related to education, research and citizenship, but also gender equality.
